AKRON, Ohio, Nov. 2, 2020—On Friday afternoon, President, Paula Burris, and other members of the Kent Area (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated presented a $1,050 check to OPEN M in support of the Hot Lunch program.
The Links, Inc. has a long tradition of “engaging in the educational, civic and intercultural activities in communities they serve.
Founded in 1946, it is one of the oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of women, who are committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.”
“OPEN M is grateful to welcome The Links, Inc. as a partner as we join together to assist with improving the quality of life for communities who need our support in having their voices heard,” said Christine Curry, OPEN M CEO.
OPEN M’s Hot Lunch program provides fresh and nourishing meals to members of the Akron Community facing hunger. This meal is provided in partnership with local churches, organizations and community groups who purchase, cook, and serve each meal during the last two weeks of each month except November and December.
In 2019, churches, businesses and organizations prepared and served more than 7,200 Hot Lunches, valuing at more than $28,800. During the beginning phases of the pandemic, the program was put on hold but has since returned with COVID-19 restrictions in place, including serving outdoors and in to-go containers.
