HOLDS 2024 BLACK FAMILY WELLNESS EXPO TO SUPPORT NATIONAL EFFORT 

AKRON OHIO, MARCH 16, 2024


The Kent Area (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will hold a Black Family Wellness Expo on March 16, 2024 in an effort to reduce health and economic disparities and to save and improve lives in the Black community.  This effort, being held in Akron, Ohio, Summit County, is aimed at addressing multiple health, educational, and economic disparities that negatively impact the health and quality of life for many in this community.  The local event is a part of The Links, Incorporated’s nationwide Black Family Wellness Expos being held across the country on March 16, 2024, which aims to leverage its entire membership in the effort to improve outcomes for Black families. The Kent Area (OH) Chapter will be joined by the Cleveland (OH) Chapter and the Western Reserve (OH) Chapter in this effort.


This local event contributes to The Links, Incorporated National Wellness Expos effort to raise awareness about conditions that shorten or impact the quality of life for those in the Black community. The entire Black family is included, from infant to senior citizen. Some of the issues the local event will address include pre-natal and newborn issues; maternal health;  breast, colon and prostate cancer awareness; sickle cell disease, diabetes, kidney disease; heart health; dietary and nutritional health, dental health; mental health awareness and resources, aging; dementia; caregiver resources, financial empowerment, voter registration and information, child and adult safety, home safety, health screenings (blood pressure, diabetes, glaucoma, others), AED (Automated Electronic Defibrillator) use and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) education and training, the importance of physical activity for all ages, raffles, give-a-ways and more. We invite the community to join us.
